Frequently Asked Questions

How long are sessions?

Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes long.

Initial intake sessions may be 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

Couples sessions typically 50 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Can I use my health insurance to pay for my sessions?

Though insurance billing is not available at Tearapy Advocate, all clients are encouraged to seek reimbursement if available through their insurance plan. If you would like to seek reimbursement you will be provided with a “Super Bill” to submit to your insurance company. You must contact your health insurance company directly to find out if reimbursement is available through your plan.

How Do I Pay For Sessions?

Payment is due at each session, though typically processed by the end of the week and no later than Monday of the following week. You will be asked to keep a card on file in your client portal account. If your card does not go through you will receive a link to your invoice via email that will expire within 24 hours. Payment is accepted in the form of cash (for in-person appointments only) or credit card. (Visa, Master Card, Discover, American Express)

What is your cancellation policy?

You must cancel your appointments with a minimum of 24 hours in advance via email or text. You will not be charged for your first late cancellation, but you will be reminded about the 24 hour cancellation policy.

After your first late cancellation, you will be charged the full fee regardless of the reason for your cancellation. However, as a courtesy, if a time slot is available to reschedule within the same week, you will be given the opportunity to reschedule your missed appointment, though this is not guaranteed.

Health Saving Accounts (HSA) & Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

These accounts allow you to set money aside tax-free to use for medical expenses. In most cases, these funds can be used to pay for counseling although the final decision is made by your plan administrator. If you have a credit card linked to your HSA or FSA, your account can be charged directly. If not, a statement you can submit for reimbursement will be provided.
